SAVE TĂBĂCĂRIE PARK
An initiative that united Constanta in an unprecedented civic activism

In 2005, the Constanta City Hall decided that 56,000 square meters of the green area of the Tăbăcărie Park would be transformed into a mall. The decision determined NGO Mare Nostrum to take the initiative, having in mind a logical reasoning: the lack of green spaces in Constanta. In fact, the green urban spaces and the "greening" of Constanta were a strategic objective of the organization from the very beginning.

The intention of the initiative was to change the place for the construction of the mall, to maintain Tăbăcărie Park. The NGO Mare Nostrum organized 2 protest rallies against the construction of the Mall in Tăbăcăriei Park and sent notifications to the Environmental Protection Agency, Constanța City Hall, the Ministry of the Environment, the People's Advocate and the National Anticorruption Department. Also, to complete the initiative, a sociological study was also conducted. Discussions were also held with the President of Romania, to stop this initiative.

The rallies mobilized the citizens, who joined the initiative of the NGO Mare Nostrum, wishing a real park for Constanta.
